18.12.2013 Dear EMYR Sailors... ...it is nearly Christmas time again but it is also cold in Turkey but the sun comes out for some days and smile at us warmly mainly Aegean and Mediterranean parts of Turkey. We, the EMYR Committee members, have decided to continue to organize the EMYR Rallies for the foreseeable future depending on the support of our friends in the Eastern Mediterranean countries. Unfortunately we had to cancel EMYR 2013 due to all the political turbulences in the Middle East and we hope there will be better political climate in Spring 2014 to sail to Lebanon, Israel and Egypt. We can’t visit Syria in 2014 and there are still some difficulties in visiting the interior of Lebanon & Egypt. Our friends have reported that all is fine in N. Cyprus & Israel and we will receive a warm welcome as usual. EMYR Team: Previous Rally Secretary Faruk is busy with managing Turgutreis Bodrum Marina. Umut Tepedelenlioglu works for both marinas in Ayvalik and also in Mitilini. New Rally secretary Ebru Mete Kahraman, who was the Rally Secretary before, is in Göcek. Hasan is still consulting the new marina development in istanbul Büyükçekmece and designing a new inland marina at Antalya. Dave & Kath will visit Nepal for a month for a change and the committee will gather for Christmas and the New Year Party in N. Cyprus. You are all welcome. We have had a very busy, long & hot summer and now we enjoy a quiet and mild winter on the southern Turkish coast. West istanbul Marina has attracted many yachts because of the excellent inexpensive prices, Marina istanbul construction is due for completion by the end of 2014 if all the permits are granted on time. Ayvalik, Çesme, Teos-Sigacik, Kusadasi, and Marti Marinas are full but they can always find a berth for you as some of their guests will be leaving the marina to sail back to other destinations. Didim & Kas Marinas have had a successful summer with an increase in number of visitors compared to last year. Finike & Kemer marinas offer safe berths and many social functions for the liveaboards. Alanya Marina now is in the process of completing some constructional work to make the marina bigger and better. Mersin Marina has more yachts but still there are many available berths for new visitors. Girne Delta and Karpas Gate marinas in Cyprus are very well organized and ready to receive new berth holders. The marinas at the eastern end of the Mediterranean, Jounieh in Lebanon, Herzliya & Ashkelon in Israel are always safe to visit. No new marina in our region has been completed but Gazipasa Marina near cape Anamur & Kumkuyu Marina near Mersin will be ready at the end of 2014 as reported. We will give you more information about the Eastern Mediterranean marinas when we meet you at the Düsseldorf Turkish Cruising Dinner. Some of you may remember that Barbara & Fridhelm Kaltwasser of SY Friba have organized Turkish Cruising Dinners for a long time. Unfortunately they have stopped the organization 7 years ago and we have lost our chance to have a pleasant evening with the friends. For 2014, the Turkish Tourism Ministry has a stand again at Düsseldorf Boat Show. Please come and visit the Turkish Stand with your family and friends. You are welcome to share a glass of wine or two every day at Happy Hour 17:00- 18:00. Invitation to Turkish Cruisers Dinner Following the successful organizations of Barbara & Friedhelm, we have decided to organize a Turkish Cruisers Dinner at 20th January 2014 at Düsseldorf Yacht Club. Hasan Kaçmaz, Klaus Hympendahl and Beatris & Jürgen Lutz of Cat Saksuka are in charge for the organization. Would you please reply and confirm your participation at the latest till 30th December 2013 as there will be limited space. if you need a vegetarian option, please let us know. Unfortunately we also have sad news for you. Helmut Ammann of SY Shiba passed away on 6th November 2013 and we will notice his absence at the dinner. EMYR Committee Hasan (definitely), Dave & Kath (maybe), Turkish Counselor (most probably), Klaus Hympendahl, Beatris & Jurgen Lutz (definitely), Andreas Horn & Wyn Hoop (most probably) and some Turkish Marina Managers, Ashkelon Marina Manager Eran Portugali will be at the dinner. We will meet on the Turkish Stand for a drink on Monday, 20th January 2014 at 17:00 and then we will proceed to our annual dinner at Düsseldorf Yacht Club. Best regards, On behalf of EMYR Committee & East Med Marinas , Kath & David Gerrard & Hasan Kaçmaz |
